From the reports before us, it appears that thirty-six medical officers are of opinion that the disease is contagious, twenty-six are doubtful on this point, and twenty-four deny that leprosy can be communicated from one person to another. The majority, therefore, are in favour of contagion ; but it is expressly stated in several of the reports that " leprosy is only contagious in the ulcerative stages."
